At Ease with Jessica Avidon
We are more resilient than we realize, our body’s constantly strive to achieve homeostasis for optimal function, many of these processes happen without us even thinking about them. The trouble is we often will ignore the warning signs as we have become conditioned to push ourselves in ways that are not always useful. This leads to the development of aches and pains and illness. Unfortunately, many may be born with a genetic predisposition and life is about learning to live alongside those.
Through reconnecting body and mind, we start to appreciate how they are there to support each other and to assist us in dealing with daily stressors or trauma’s that have occurred.
Body work is extremely effective as it presents an opportunity to learn and understand the language of your body and the story it wants to tell, as opposed to only listening to what your mind thinks is going on.
By making space and time for both we allow optimal healing.
I have often found that if my nervous system is in balance, my body moves better, my thoughts are clearer, my mood is more balanced and my capacity to deal with life’s daily surprises is greater.
I focus on releasing and rebalancing stress and trauma through body work.
Treatment 1: Myofascial Release Massage
This massage is fairly similar to a deep tissue massage, where I work on releasing the stuck fascial slings (connective tissue surrounding the muscles) in order to allow the body to realign itself. I use a cream rather than oil which provides more friction and is therefore a more effective release. This technique is fantastic for releasing long standing chronic pain and tension, or overworked muscles if you are a sports person. While you may experience pain during the massage, afterwards you will feel how the body has eased. Your first session is usually 1.5hrs as it includes a few functional and range of motion tests to see which muscle groups are in or out of alignment. A 1 hour treatment can be done without the full assessment.
Treatment 2: Reconnective Touch Massage
Using a pressure that works best for you, and a mixture of aromatherapy oils and fast and slow strokes, this full body massage will leave you feeling relaxed and re-energized. The technique follows the basic myofascial release principles; which aim to restructure and rebalance the body’s compensation patterns in a holistic way.
Treatment 3: Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)
TRE assists in releasing stress that has been stored in the body. Through activating neurogenic tremors (your body’s natural tremoring mechanism) you can teach your body to release stress and trauma and rebalance the nervous system, which will help you to become more relaxed, and TRE will serve as a self-empowering tool to manage your stress.
Jessica offers TRE (Stress, Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercise) and Myofascial Release Therapy (Massage) in Table View, Cape Town. She became a TRE Practitioner in 2012. She previously worked in the advertising industry. As well as TRE, Jess also practices Myofascial Release Therapy and is a graphic designer. Jessica has assisted and co-supervised L1 and L2 TRE trainings with L3 trainer, Ingrid Regenass. Jessica has also been involved in community projects with the SAPS and has done corporate TRE programmes. Body work has played a major role in Jessica’s own journey of healing stress and trauma. Whether you have gone through severe or mild stress or are a sportsman/woman, both modalities can assist in rebalancing.
