TAKE THE ROAD TO MCGREGOR
McGregor, a quaint village two hours’ drive from Cape Town is the perfect getaway, set in a mountain scape destined to nourish your soul. It is known as a sacred site and one of the few places in the world to lie directly on ley lines. That may be the reason it is also home to many artists, potters, sculptors, and healers who find peace and tranquillity in this creative space of natural energy where time seems to stand still.
Numerous beautiful retreats and cosy accommodation is available for peace seekers wanting to connect with nature. We stayed at a comfy guest house called Rhythm full on where owners Mira and Pnina provide a spacious haven to reconnect and just Be, sans Wi-Fi or TV.
When you take the road to Mcgregor you are surrounded by nature’s nurture, it’s a heavenly opportunity to kick off your shoes, relax in the warmth of the afternoon sun, sink softly into one of the big couches with a good book and let your imagination run free. A hot tub soak in the Victorian bath is a great precursor for a deep sleep in the welcome silence of the village.
In the village old stone irrigation channels run the length of whitewashed cottages, set in and amongst tall trees, kaleidoscopes of colourful bougainvillaea and rambling roses. At the Saturday morning farmer’s market, you’ll be welcomed with kindness, and open hearts from town folk passionate about their delicious home-baked bread and pastries, boerenkaas, dips, natural preserves, nut butters, pickles and olives. Locally sourced, devoid of artificial preservatives they’re the perfect addition to the fresh leafy greens, herbs and seasonal vegetables picked from the cottage garden at Rhythm full on.
Find your happy place in meditation and relaxation in the lush green garden at Rhythm full on with the whispering trees and scented flowers to keep you company. Alternatively go on a day’s hike along the Boesmankloof trail with the picturesque fynbos valleys, past mountain pools and majestic waterfalls.
Meander and meditate through the beautiful gardens of Temenos amongst peacocks, flowers and labyrinths.
Offering a therapeutic soul escape from the city mayhem, Rhythm full on has a fully furnished country cottage suitable for two without all the fuss, folly and trimmings.
